When it comes to Android phones, OnePlus is a company that has made a name for itself for exactly a decade now. Not only smartphones, but it is slowly tapping into tablets and wearables too.
OnePlus is popular for adding features to its phones that make them stand out among all other Android phones, such as Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi. Now, what are those features, let’s find out! But before we begin, here’s a brief history of OnePlus.
A Brief History of OnePlus
Back in 2013, two visionaries who were former employees of the famous smartphone brand OPPO decided to create a smartphone brand of their own. They called it “OnePlus,” and the rest is history!
The idea behind their company was to build a phone with high-end specs, a brilliant design, and smoother software under a price tag that would be affordable for people. In 2014, they released their first phone and called it the OnePlus One. It has now been a decade since the advent of OnePlus, and even today, it is called the “flagship killer” because of its stellar phones.
Now, coming towards the quirky features that you can access on the latest OnePlus phones. Read the sections ahead to find out more.
A Dedicated Gaming Mode
This one is for the gamers. Mobile gaming is a global phenomenon that is on the rise, with gaming platforms, such as Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) Mobile. However, these games require a reliable internet service, such as Xfinity Internet so that your game doesn’t lag as you play.
Your phone’s hardware and software also have a lot to do with a seamless online gaming experience. Therefore, OnePlus has paid a lot of attention to online gaming through the integration of gaming tools.
These gaming tools give you a real-time analysis of your phone’s current frame rate and the temperature of your device as you play so that you don’t overheat your phone. You can also cycle your phone between a performance mode and a battery saver mode.
To access these settings, first you have to open the Games App, then tap on Settings and select Enable Gaming Tools. After that, swipe down from the top left corner as you play your favorite game to view these settings and tweak them.
Cool Gestures When the Screen is Off
Even when your phone’s screen is turned off, you can draw gestures on it to carry out some functions. For instance, you can set your phone to turn on the flashlight if you draw a “V” on the screen.
Similarly, you can draw an “O” on the screen to open the camera, double tap on your screen to turn it on or off, use two fingers to swipe down (|| like this) and pause or play your music, draw a < to move to the previous song and draw a > to skip to the next song and so on.
This makes using your phone a lot easier, especially when you are in a hurry and cannot unlock your phone.
3 Different Variations of the “Dark Mode”
The world is divided between two different kinds of people, those who like their devices on light mode and others who prefer their devices running on dark mode. I feel the light mode is heavier on the eyes, especially when the brightness is high. I always keep my phone on dark mode for that very reason.
You will be glad to know that OnePlus gives you three variations when you choose the dark mode. These three modes include Gentle, Medium, and Enhanced. Gentle has a touch of gray to it so that the dark mode doesn’t feel like a dark shade of black. Medium is a perfect mix of both black and gray so that it is easier on the eyes. Enhanced, however, is entirely black and is for people who want the deepest touch of black in their phone.
To access these features, head to Settings, open Display and Brightness, switch your phone to Dark Mode, then tap on Dark Mode Settings where you can find all three variations of dark mode to cycle between.
A Little Extra Tip
If you want your phone’s screen to be easier to look at, only switching it to dark mode isn’t going to suffice. You may also turn on the Eye Comfort Mode on your phone which will filter out the blue light. It is the same if you are running your phone in light mode.
Once you turn the blue light filter on, you will feel a lesser strain on your eyes, making it easier to use at night!
